Practices and Policies

  • Efficient water taps in both toilets only heat when needed

  • Small hot water heater in kitchen adequate for requirements

  • LED lights where possible

  • Efficient Thermostatically controlled room heaters

  • Triple glazing

  • Heaters and lights only switched on when room is in use

  • Kitchen hot water heater only used when is absolutely necessary – takes 10 mins to heat so switched off at all other times

  • Kitchen kettle only filled with as much as is needed

  • Efficient hot water urns used during group activity rather than a kettle

  • Fridge kept between 3-5 degrees Celsius

  • Dishwasher only used when completely full

  • Nontoxic cleaning and hand wash products used where possible

  • Printers to be switched off when not in use

  • Recycled or recyclable paper in the printer

  • Recycle wastepaper

  • Batteries disposed of in the correct way and not in the general waste. Rechargeable batteries to be used where possible

  • Purchases where possible, to be Local; Fairtrade; Recycled; Rechargeable

  • Encourage plastic free by offering water and drinks in glasses and mugs

  • Monitor waste -recycle where possible. Look for opportunities to prevent or reduce waste
